TRIP at the Domefest Chicago
TRIP was playing the Hamburg Planetarium for almost a year and that won us an invitation to the renowned Domefest 2008 at the Adler Planetarium in Chicago, Il.
"I can tell you from personal experience that your piece had some of the most original content I have seen on the dome in a long time, and I found it very compelling, visually and narratively," said Jonathan Strawn, producer of the Domefest 2008.
In the end we didn’t win the "domy", the "academy Award" for fulldome productions, but we were at least among the 12 finalists.

TRIP in the States and out on DVD.
TRIP - Remix Your Experience, was introduced at a series of 5 viral launch parties - one in each borough - from August through November in New York The public was thrilled and even the hard to surprise people from the media were enthusiastic.
Now, after the release of TRIP "one of the most innovative film projects" on DVD on April 15, it’s was time for the release party. On Tuesday, April 29, Monkey Town, a well known venue in Williamsburg, Brooklyn hosted a party to celebrate the release of the multimedia extravaganza on DVD. Interwoven with TRIP’s unique combination of music and film was live, interactive entertainment - from acrobats and dancers to performance artists and DJ Paul Sevigny. It was a spectacular evening and a superb start for the distributor.
ferryhouse is proud to announce that Icon Mes Inc. has picked up TRIP for nationwide distribution on DVD. Icon Mes was already involved with the TRIP shows in New York and we are happy to have Icon Mes as a partner who is wholeheartedly committed to this rather unusual project.

Inspired by the many marine sequences in the film, TRIP screened at the Underwater Lounge in DUMBO on Thursday, November 15th. The buoyant crowd was ushered in by retro-stewardesses and their experience was enhanced by thematic Christiania vodka cocktails.
TRIP’s hypnotic imagery was enhanced by the many plasma screens strategically placed around the grotto-esque décor. This marked the first time that each of the movies was shown individually, setting the stage for the large screen format of the Manhattan event. The pageantry and motif were a perfect compliment to the live mermaid enjoyed during the P.S.1 after-party at Dean Project’s inaugural show in Long Island City and the sunglass screening at the Bronx Museum.
TRIP's 5-borough journey was launched on an outdoor terrace with river views in Staten Island, just steps away from the Staten Island Ferry Terminal. Click here for photos of these TRIP events in NYC.

TRIP, the acclaimed music-art-film spectacular from Germany, launched in New York City on August 9th!
In 2006, two accomplished musicians in Germany created a 74-minute sound opus: Frank Otto and Bernt Köhler-Adams, whose collective imagination birthed an inspiration-fest among directors, composers, designers and audiences worldwide.
Otto, a ground-breaking artist who works in multiple media as a painter, composer and musician, is also widely recognized for his pioneering work as a music producer as the co-founder of Viva, the German equivalent of MTV.
His deep connection to artistic collaboration inspired him to give the 74-minute musical piece to twelve other musical artists with a wide range of different styles to contribute elements of rock, pop, jazz and avant-garde sounds to the emerging “one-track symphony,” which was recorded and mixed in 5.1 Dolby surround sound.
Then, no less than 33 filmmakers took the work and created 4 separate “visual soundtracks” to the music; resulting in an unconventional and amazing dramatic cinema collage.
The final product, TRIP, shows the 4 films simultaneously as the music pulses in the background, creating an extraordinary sensual experience for the viewers.

What people say about the TRIP events:
"There's a local and a large rhythm going on in the movies, interjections of multitudes of lives, merman, and animal, all on one planet living, surviving. It's not just about one life, fleeting in a larger spectrum of creation. It's many simple lives, many grand moments… more than one version of myself for the planet to absorb."
"Stunning, magic. A rapid explosion of visual images held together by a matrix of audio pleasure."
"I entered tired, hungry, and thirsty. I leave refreshed physically, visually, and aurally."
"I was immediately with the music…I found myself dancing."
AND A FEW MORE, ON THE CRAZY BUT GREAT SIDE
"I am a drunken bunny, dancing precariously between love and despair, but never losing sight of the ultimate goal. I am the baby turtle, struggling, ever struggling to emerge from what was, to what will be."
"I felt like the mermaid lifted herself from the flat screen and embraced the crowd…I am worried she will sink back beneath the liquid screen and leave me alone again."
"Truly an experience - audio, visual, and entrancing. You want to see and not miss what might come next - engaging. A different artistic experience, a trip not to be missed - thank you!"
"The film was visually stimulating and engaging - the music was upbeat, creative, and relaxing - despite the overwhelming images, I
felt in a trance due to the great connection between the visuals and
the music."
"The "TRIP" was a never-ending travel through nature and an exposure to culture expertly using sight and sound."
"The images, especially the underwater creatures, the dancing bare feet, and the 'I miss you' sequence made me think of freedom, and reminded me of experiencing new things for the first time, the way a child would."
"TRIP was something I wasn't at all expecting. The music was the foundation of the emotional and the visual elements, and propelled the storyline throughout the film. I felt like the woman on the subway [in the film] - not knowing what I was getting into, and then, at the end, wondering why everyone hadn't been with me on the trip. I may have entered with a group, but I was distant from the rest. I was on my own journey."
"TRIP was creative and different...though they were all different images they invoked similar emotions, allowing the viewer of this world to connect to different cultural customs through our emotions. This makes us more human." |
